Challenge: With large glazed surfaces across both towers, achieving strong thermal and acoustic insulation while managing solar gain was essential – especially in a high-density urban zone adjacent to busy transit routes. The integration of glazing also had to complement the project’s architectural identity while enabling a low-carbon, low-energy operation.
Solution: Crystal Units delivered a specification of solar control and laminated IGUs tailored for both performance and aesthetic continuity. These units enhance energy efficiency by reducing heat ingress and limiting external noise transmission, while preserving the building’s visual rhythm. This glazing solution helped meet environmental benchmarks and reinforced the design’s focus on modern urban living with community at its heart.
Project summary:
Completed in 2023, the development comprises Tower A with 132 affordable homes and Tower B with 108 private residences. The architectural language incorporates precast concrete panels and generous glazing – balancing privacy with natural light. Each unit features a private winter garden, complemented by shared roof terraces and communal indoor amenities.
Crystal Units supplied high-performance insulating glass units (IGUs) incorporating solar control and laminated glass – key to reducing energy consumption, improving acoustic performance, and contributing to the development’s sustainable credentials. The glazing also plays a passive role in temperature regulation, supporting the site-wide energy strategy that includes CHP systems and rooftop solar panels.
