Laminated Safety Glass

Ultimate protection and security with laminated glass.

Laminated safety glass consists of multiple layers bonded together, offering superior impact resistance and security.

Crystal Units offers high-performance laminated safety glass, designed to provide enhanced protection, security, and comfort across a wide range of residential and commercial applications. Laminated glass is made by bonding two or more layers of glass together with a tough, transparent interlayer—usually Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB). This interlayer holds the glass together if shattered, preventing dangerous shards from falling or dispersing, making it ideal for safety-critical areas.

As well as safety, laminated glass offers additional benefits including sound insulation, UV filtering, and security protection—making it a truly multifunctional glazing option. It’s widely used for overhead applications like glass balustrades, rooflights, shopfronts, flooring, and even high-security locations where strength and integrity matter most.

Enhanced security and noise reduction with laminated glass.

Laminated safety glass is designed to hold together when shattered, thanks to an interlayer that keeps the glass pieces in place. This feature provides increased security against break-ins and accidents, making it ideal for windows, doors, and storefronts. Additionally, the interlayer helps reduce noise, creating a quieter and more comfortable indoor environment. Laminated glass also blocks most UV radiation, protecting your interiors from sun damage. With its combination of strength, security, and noise reduction, laminated safety glass is a versatile solution for residential and commercial applications.

How Laminated Glass Is Made

Laminated glass is manufactured by sandwiching a PVB, EVA, or SGP interlayer between two or more sheets of glass. This assembly is then subjected to heat and pressure—typically in an autoclave—to fuse the layers into a single, strong unit. The interlayer not only keeps the glass intact upon breakage but also improves durability, acoustic performance, and UV resistance. Depending on the intended use, laminated glass can incorporate toughened or annealed glass, and the interlayer thickness can be varied to meet performance requirements.

Where Laminated Glass Is Used

Laminated safety glass is used across a wide variety of sectors. In architecture, it’s specified for facades, curtain walling, balustrades, partitions, and roof glazing—particularly in high-rise buildings where falling glass poses a major risk. It’s also used for floor panels and stairs, where structural integrity is essential. In public buildings and commercial spaces, it’s a preferred solution for shopfronts, doors, and interior dividers, ensuring both safety and style. Additionally, laminated glass plays a vital role in transport, government buildings, and high-security facilities, where blast and impact resistance are required.
