Challenge: Designing for a constrained urban site beside the River Thames, Docklands Light Railway, and the Blackwall Tunnel introduced complex variables including vibration management, structural load balancing, and rigorous noise attenuation. Integrating high-spec glazing capable of mitigating external noise while delivering insulation performance was essential, particularly for units facing major transport routes.
Solution:Crystal Units supplied bespoke insulating glass units featuring laminated and low-emissivity glass to reduce solar gain and sound transmission. This glazing solution supported the development’s sustainability targets and helped ensure long-term occupant comfort, all while aligning with the clean architectural lines of BUJ’s design. The result: a calm, efficient living environment amidst one of London’s most dynamic residential zones.
Project summary:
Completed in 2021, this transformative project blends luxury living with robust infrastructure. The scheme includes rooftop terraces, communal courtyards, and a podium-level amenity deck, supported by a single-storey basement housing parking and plant facilities. Glazing throughout the development features high-performance insulating glass units (IGUs) with low-emissivity and laminated specifications, ensuring optimal thermal comfort and noise control – essential features for a riverside scheme situated adjacent to key transport corridors.
Crystal Units contributed to the facade performance with laminated and low-E IGUs tailored to meet both aesthetic and acoustic requirements in a densely urbanised context. The glazing not only enhances energy efficiency but also supports the overall architectural vision of openness and clarity.
