Cartel Business Park
Crystal Units supplied high-performance insulated glass units for Unit A at Cartel Business Park, delivering a glazing package designed to support both the architectural vision and the functional requirements of a modern commercial building.
The project incorporated a curtain walling façade utilising SN 70/35 solar control coated glass alongside ceramic painted spandrel glass panels. Together, these glazing solutions provide a consistent external appearance while helping to manage solar gain, maximise daylight and conceal structural building elements.
The result is a clean, contemporary façade that balances aesthetics, occupant comfort and energy performance.
Challenge
Modern commercial developments require glazing systems that do more than simply provide transparency. Large glazed façades must carefully control solar heat gain, reduce glare and maintain comfortable internal environments while delivering a visually seamless appearance across both vision and non-vision areas.
For Unit A, Cartel Business Park, the design team required a glazing solution capable of:
• Maximising natural daylight throughout the building
• Reducing solar heat gain during warmer periods
• Creating a consistent external appearance across the façade
• Concealing floor slabs, services and structural elements behind the curtain walling system
• Supporting the overall energy performance of the building
Solution
Crystal Units manufactured and supplied insulated glass units incorporating SN 70/35 solar control coated glass throughout the vision areas of the curtain wall façade.
SN 70/35 is specifically designed to provide high light transmission while limiting solar energy entering the building. This allows occupants to benefit from bright internal spaces without excessive heat build-up or glare, improving comfort and reducing reliance on cooling systems.
To complement the vision glazing, ceramic painted spandrel glass panels were integrated throughout the façade. Spandrel glass is designed as an opaque glazing solution that conceals structural and service elements behind the curtain walling system whilst maintaining a uniform external appearance. Ceramic enamel coatings are permanently fused into the glass during the toughening process, creating a durable and long-lasting finish.
The combination of solar control glazing and spandrel panels ensured a visually consistent façade across the entire building envelope.
Project summary:
The completed façade delivers a modern commercial appearance with strong solar performance and architectural consistency.
The SN 70/35 glazing helps maintain comfortable internal conditions by balancing daylight and solar control, while the ceramic painted spandrel panels provide a seamless transition between vision and non-vision areas of the curtain walling system.
The project demonstrates how carefully specified glazing can contribute to both the aesthetic quality and operational performance of contemporary commercial developments.
